For the past four decades, turntables have been the heart and soul of the DJing world. It all started with two turntables and a mixer in the early '70s.

The first DJ mixer was invented by a company called RCA in 1963. This enabled people to crossfade between two different records. However, there were similar tools used by other DJs before that so the question of the ‘first DJ mixer’ is a contentious one. This first mixer had two inputs and two outputs and allowed DJs to fade between two tracks while they played simultaneously.
DJing evolved from early 1930s radio announcers into a modern performance art. Over the decades, it transformed through pivotal cultural eras—giving birth to hip-hop via block parties in the 1970s, house and techno in Chicago and Detroit in the 1980s, and the modern digital and festival landscape of today.
DJ equipment is used to mix, manipulate, and play recorded music seamlessly. Core devices—like decks, mixers, and controllers—allow performers to adjust tempos, blend frequencies, and trigger sound effects to maintain crowd energy at clubs, weddings, and live events.
For bedroom djs and anyone looking to start djing, dj controllers are the most popular entry point. A controller combines the functionality of two songs being played on decks and a dj mixer into a single unit that connects to a laptop. This allows you to control dj software physically.

What is great about modern controllers is that they often pack the same features found on professional club equipment but at a fraction of the cost. You can practice your mixing techniques at home, recording and listening back to create mixes that sound professional, and then take the same unit to a house party. At musicland we have a wide range of dj equipment's for you to choose from depending on the nature of your application, taste and budget.
